The B.L. Downey Company process involves etching the metal, through shot-blasting and/or the immersion in, or spray treatment on, of metal cleaning materials, so that the surface area to be treated is prepared to achieve superior coating adhesion through our unique etching process thereby increasing surface area.
In addition to creating more surface area, the B.L. Downey Company technique removes all contaminants including heavy rust, oxides, laser gasses, chlorides, dirt and other contaminants from any metal products in accordance with SSPC-SP-10 to result in near white metal.
The result is a perfectly clean metal surface to which the coating can create a clean, tight bond resulting in a durable, beautiful finish.
B.L. Downey Company owns 4 in-house 150-ton conveyorized pass-through Wheelabrator shot blast sandblaster machines. These machines, together with the chemical pretreatments, such
as an iron-phosphate, a zinc-phosphate wash, and other pretreatments ensure proper adhesion of any coating material B.L. Downey Company offers.
